BROADSWAY’S NEWEST MEMBER
About 15 years ago, three musical friends – Heather Bambrick, Diane Leah, and Julie Michels got together for a concert in which we sang musical theatre tunes with a jazz approach. The only thing we took seriously was the music … and the fun! So, we decided to keep doing it and that’s how Broadsway came to be.
Over the next 15 years, we performed wherever and whenever we could, from venues like Roy Thompson Hall and Jazz Bistro in Toronto to Birdland and the Metropolitan Room in New York. We created our Symphony show and performed that in Ontario and Newfoundland, and we developed a Christmas show, which toured throughout Southern Ontario for several years.
Through it all, we made great music and memories, met some of our idols, and shared some fabulous times – both on and off the stage. We eventually expanded the ensemble, first rounding out the group with bass and drums and then, in 2025, we adding a new “Broad”: Kylie Martin. With that, Broadsway continued to develop.
This year, we’re seeing more changes in the group. Julie Michels, one of the founding Broads, is shifting things and focusing more on her solo career. The remaining Broads – particularly co-founders Diane and Heather – will certainly miss her, but we also know how talented Julie is and how much her fans will appreciate seeing her doing a little more of her own work.
And, so, there is a new chapter in Broadsway’s story. We’re making another personnel change.
Wondering what that change is? Stay tuned to find out!
